"A May that Matters" Part Two - Happy Mother's Day!

Family Matters

What is the Mother's Role in the Family?

Titus 2:3-5 "The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."

THE MOTHER SETS THE EXAMPLE:
  1. She is the example of holiness. (Hebrews 12:14 - "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord." and Ephesians 4:24 - "And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.")
  2. She is the example of honesty. (Titus 2:3 - "...not false accusers...")
  3. She is an example of humility. (Titus 2:3 - "...not given to much wine..." - Also see Proverbs 20:1 and Proverbs 23:29.)

THE MOTHER SERVES AS AN EDUCATOR

  1. She is an educator of good things. (Ephesians 5:22-24 - "Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything." - Our children must be taught about God's plan for the family. Our best lesson is one taught by example.)
  2. She is an educator of godly things. (Titus 2:5 "To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands..." - It is a parent's responsibility to teach our children about modesty, how to behave in the home and in the church, and about God's plan for the family.)

THE MOTHER IS AN EXTENSION OF GOD

  1. Titus 2:5 "...that the word of God be not blasphemed."
  2. A mother must raise her children in a way that glorifies God.

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

She riseth while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

She looketh well to the ways of her household, she eateth not the bread of idleness.

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, he praiseth her.

Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Give her the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Proverbs 31:10-31
